Fleet Reliability Engineer, flexible UK locations, competitive salary plus benefits
Porterbrook is a leading provider of rolling stock leasing and asset management. Working in close partnership with key suppliers and customers, they are embarking on an exciting and ambitious initiative to drive up the reliability of their assets and aim to deliver a step change in fleet reliability.
To support the delivery of this high-profile project we are looking to appoint a reliability driven engineer who is proactive and motivated to take accountability for leading projects in collaboration with a number of train operating companies (TOC’s). The position is initially fixed term to the end of 2021 with the potential to be extended or go permanent. The preferred candidate will reside within reasonable commuting distance to one of the following locations -
- Neville Hill (Leeds)
- Etches Park (Derby)
- Eastcroft (Nottingam)
- Tyseley (Birmingham)
The role will be the taskforce focal point for a specific fleet(s), accountable for delivering sustainable solutions to reliability problems. Taskforce projects will typically last 12-18 months with ambitious targets on specific subsystems. The ideal candidate will excel under pressure and being part of energetic, high profile projects.
Supported by the Fleet and Digital Services teams, the role will lead a dedicated, cross-organisation taskforce, to deliver and evidence performance improvements on their specific fleet(s). This person will plan, own, and execute performance improvements through the taskforce, ensuring the correct training, monitoring and BAU processes are in place to sustain the improvement after the taskforce end date.
The role will require a hands-on approach, being present on-site with the team, building strong team morale and expertise as the project progresses. The first project will focus on DMU engine reliability, but future projects will consider other fleet types and different subsystems.
Regular reporting of project status, with monthly updates to the senior leadership team.
Role will report to the Head of Maintenance Services with a line into the Head of Digital Services.
Key skills and experience include:
- Engineering background, ideally with an understanding of trains and depot environment.
- DMAIC/Lean/Six sigma training highly desirable
- Awareness of remote condition monitoring solutions
- Core focus on reliability
- Able to recognise shortcomings and rapidly adapt methods and processes to deliver results
