Porterbrook Leasing Company specialises in the leasing of all types of railway rolling stock and associated equipment.  Based in Derby with a corporate Head Office in London, the organisation is undertaking a period of transformational change as it responds to the changing landscape in rail.  The engineering function is seeking the most talented commercial and technical resources in the industry to join its team, to enable the business to be fit for the future.

The Fleet Support Engineer is accountable for the management of Porterbrook Assets when they are on lease to the Train Operating Companies (TOC’s). This role in particular will support the extensive cascade of Turbostar fleets into the East Midlands Railway, following similar fleet cascades to Northern and Wales.  This is a hand-on role to help ensure the successful delivery of the Turbostar fleet. A key element of this role will be to help upskill the TOC engineering teams on the technicalities of this fleet, during the cascade and the initial periods of operation. The role will also provide support to deliver Porterbrook’s lease obligations for the relevant assets, heavy maintenance, modification programmes.  The role will also develop solution to any issues affecting the asset, provide platform support and develop reliability growth programs. 

We are looking for a Chartered Engineer, or someone working towards this level, with 5 or more years of relevant Rolling Stock experience, along with good asset management skills, although we will also consider candidates who are time served railway engineers.  Key will be a deep level of technical expertise in the Turbostar fleet and the ability to transfer knowledge and skills to others. The ideal candidate will have good commercial skills, budget management, excellent communication skills and have a good understanding of fleet leasing arrangements. Strong attention to detail is also critical along with problem solving skills.  Ideally with a project management qualification or good evidence of managing engineering projects. Successful candidates are likely to have a background in a TOC or the supply chain. The role holder must be prepared for regular travel as required.
